Meet the Doctors
Vana Andreou BSc, DDS, MSc (Perio), FRCD(C)
Dr. Vana Andreou is originally from Montreal. She received her Bachelor of Science in cell and molecular biology from Concordia University in 1993, followed by her Doctorate of Dental Surgery general dentistry degree from McGill University in 1997. She completed her general practice residency at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal before working in private practice.
In 2002, Dr. Andreou and her husband moved to Toronto, where she received a Master of Science and training in periodontology from the University of Toronto. She received a Government of Ontario Scholarship in Research and Technology for her periodontal research, which focused on the effects of bacterial toxins and cigarette by-products on bone formation. For her research, Dr. Andreou was recognized in 2001 with the Balint Orban Award from the American Academy of Periodontology.
Following completion of her periodontal training, in 2002 Dr. Andreou moved to Ottawa, where she has since been in private practice.
Dr. Andreou enjoys tap dance and ballet, photography, and cooking, as well as travelling with her husband, daughter, and dog Oreo.
Dr. Andreou is fluent in English, French, and Greek.
Charles Alleyn C.D., BSc, DDS, Dip(Perio), FRCD(C)
Dr. Alleyn obtained his DDS from McGill University in 1983. He spent the next 7 years serving as a general dentist in the Canadian Forces and graduated in 1990 with a Diploma in Periodontics. In 1996, he left the military for private practice. He lent his professional expertise to the Royal College of Dentists of Canada as past Chief Examiner of Periodontics, and also as past periodontics representative to the Committee of Specialty Affairs for the Canadian Dental Association.
Sophie R. Couto DDS, MS, Cert (Perio), FRCD(C)
Dr. Sophie R. Couto was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. She graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honors Bachelor of Science degree in 2011. She completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Southern California in 2016.
Dr. Couto returned to Northern Ontario to practice general dentistry with her father and from there decided to pursue the field of periodontology. She completed her surgical residency training in Periodontics and Implantology at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry in 2020. She concurrently completed her Master of Science in Oral Biology and published her Masters research in 2021 on acellular dermal matrix materials for soft tissue grafting. Dr. Couto then went on to practice periodontology in Upstate New York before moving to Ottawa in 2021.
Dr. Couto is the recipient of the G. Donald Montgomery Excellence in Dentistry Award, the Julio Edelman Memorial Award, the Robert W. McNulty Memorial Award, the Alpha Omega Certificate of Academic Achievement Award, and the International College of Dentists USA Section Procter & Gamble Student Leadership Award. She is an initiate of the Zeta Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society.
Dr. Couto enjoys baking, reading, travelling, playing badminton and spending time with her family and her dog Leo.
Michael Silva, DDS, MSc (Perio), FRCD(C)
Originally from Ottawa, he obtained his Bachelor of Science with high distinction in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from Carleton University before moving to Toronto to complete his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He opted to further his education right away and completed his Master of Science degree in Periodontology from the University of Toronto. His research focused on exploring the impact of site specificity in early and late dental implant failure. Dr. Silva has successfully completed his board certification in Periodontics and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
He then began practicing around the Kitchener and London area while his wife completed her residency before returning to Ottawa where he grew up. Dr. Silva practices all aspects of periodontology and is committed to delivering evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
When he is not practicing, Dr. Silva enjoys spending time with his wife and family, playing sports, travelling and trying new foods.
